A bi-partisan coalition of state Attorney Generals have announced an anti-trust investigation into Facebook today. This will be followed by an additional thirty-six states beginning a similar investigation into Google. This follows a Department of Justice inquiry into Google.
The lead on the Facebook investigation, New York State Attorney General, Letitia James said the following in a press release:
“Even the largest social media platform in the world must follow the law and respect consumers. I am proud to be leading a bipartisan coalition of attorneys general in investigating whether Facebook has stifled competition and put users at risk. We will use every investigative tool at our disposal to determine whether Facebook’s actions may have endangered consumer data, reduced the quality of consumers’ choices, or increased the price of advertising.”
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the investigation into Google is being led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. According to the WSJ this will be announced on Monday.
